Honorary restoration for Pieter Bruegel after the banishment of his tribute exhibition from his Chapel Church (4 days after the opening of the exhibition) on 18 December 2019.
You may not have been able to witness the successful opening evening of the third part of the exhibition « In the footsteps of Bruegel » on 14 January 2020 or you did not receive the invitation and announcement.
Pity because the speeches of the speakers were certainly worthwhile:
- Sven Gatz, Minister of the Brussels-Capital Region
- Ms Choi Youngjin, director of the Korean Culture Center Brussels (she also represented her ambassador)
- Ivo Bryon, director Anderlecht Academy and
- Nik Honinckx, Director of Beeldenstorm.
On Wednesday 5 February 2020 you will have the opportunity to see the artworks banned from the Chapel Church (Kapellekerk) in the third part of the exhibition « In the footsteps of Bruegel ».
It is incomprehensible and impertinent that at the end of the international Bruegel commemoration (450 years) this tribute to our great Master was banished from his church!
All the more so that this church is the historical place where he married and was buried. This is a disgrace on this year of remembrance. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“In the footsteps of Bruegel I (Korea)”
Bruegel 2019 was now also in Korea
In response to the invitation to participate in the large summer exhibition "The Eye of Contemporary Art" in Daegu-Korea from the end of July to 11 August, I showed a number of drawings that are in close relationship with Korea, including some of my major urban projects (Bratislava, Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam), as well as my "Rembrandt revisited" interpretations and especially the first of the three Bruegel exhibitions on the occasion of the great Bruegel commemoration year 2019.
Here are some images of the exhibition and the festive opening that was beautiful with much praise from the mayor of this city of 3 million inhabitants.
Then Mrs Eva Morre, cultural representative of the Belgian Embassy in Korea, spoke, followed by the explanation by Mr Lee Wooseok, the curator of this exhibition and an artist himself.
The impressive opening was closed by the tenor Noh Hee Sub who brought a selection of well-known Italian songs and ended bringing a great atmosphere by inviting everyone to sing along and even dance.
There was a lot of interest in this exhibition and there were contacts with curators of both the large new Museum of Daegu and several large museums in Seoul. This was partly thanks to the Belgian embassy, which had organized a good contact evening with dinner in Seoul at which Mrs. Hajin Lee, Cultural attaché of the Dutch embassy, was also present. I also had a pleasant meeting with our ambassador Mr Peter Lescouhier.
During the preparatory phase, I was able to benefit from the support of the Brussels-Capital Region and of the Daegu Contemporary Artist Association, which I would like to thank once again.
This great summer exhibition "The Eye of Contemporary Art" at the Daegu Culture & Art Center ran from 31 July to 11 August 2019 and my contribution to it consisted of three major parts:
- Bruegel 450 years: this is the first of three Bruegel exhibitions; the next two are planned in Brussels
- Rembrandt 350 years old
- East meets West - Old & New _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
- Op 10 november gaf Kamiel D'Hooghe, oprichter van het Conservatorium, een toelichting gevolgd door 4 Armeense zangeressen die liederen brachten uit hun cultureel erfgoed.
- Op zaterdag 17 november om 15 u zal Thomas Meuwissen, beroemde viool-alt en cellobouwer erkend als top op wereldvlak spreken en Dejana Sekulic voorstellen. Zij is specialiste in het hedendaags vioolrepertorium en zal spelen op een viool van Thomas.
- Op de daaropvolgende zaterdagen tot 22 december (behalve 24 november) zullen vrienden met woord en muziek deze tentoonstelling opluisteren.
- Katleen Coessens zal als vijfde en nieuwe directeur de tentoonstelling afsluiten.
- Le samedi 10 novembre à 15 h, Kamiel D'Hooghe, fondateur du Conservatoire Flamand, a introduit l'œuvre de Bert De Keyser suivi par 4 musiciennes Arméniennes qui ont chantées une sélection de leur grand répertoire musical Arménien. Prochain Evenement
- Le samedi 17 novembre, Thomas Meuwissen, célèbre luthier et violoncelliste reconnu comme l'un des meilleurs du monde, présentera Dejana Sekulić spécialiste du répertoire contemporain pour violon, elle joue sur un violon de Thomas.
- A visiter pendant les concerts et les samedis jusqu'au 22 décembre de 14.30 h à 18 h (pas le 24 novembre) des amis de Bert animeront cette exposition avec des paroles et de la musique .

Na de grote tentoonstelling in het Deutsches Hopfenmuseum in Wolnzach-Beieren in het voorjaar zijn er nu pasteltekeningen over hop te zien in het Hopmuseum van Poperinge t.g.v. de hop-en bierfeesten op 15, 16, 17 sept. daarna nog tot 1 oktober 2017.

Project In Continuo: tekeningen / dessins / drawings
Door reeds lange contacten, tekende Bert al ruim 12 jaar musici bij repetities of concerten. 12 jaar terug stelde Paul Dujardin voor de artiesten die optreden in Bozar op te volgen. Dit is dan het Project "IN CONTINUO" geworden. Zo heeft hij al veel meer dan 2000 musici getekend waarvan de heel grote meesters, gelijktijdig ook de artiesten uit de dans, literatuur en theater wereld. Dit schept dan ook een rijke band met deze mensen.
De eerste grote overzichtstentoonstelling hierover was in Bergen t.g.v. Mons 2015, Cultuurhoofdstad van Europa.Voor de opening stelde Claude Ledoux het muziekaal programma samen met waarbij hij ook een kleine compositie gemaakt had over de tekeningen van Bert De Keyser. Bij het afsluiten werd het een improvisatieconcert-performance door Kris Defoort en live tekenen met Bert De Keyser. Dit was opnieuw, na Geraargsbergen, een aangenaam en creatief samenwerken.

PROLONGATION: Bert De Keyser à l´auditorium d´ARTS² - Conservatoire royal de Mons
Après son ouverture à l´occasion de la rentrée académique d´ARTS², l´exposition rétrospective de Bert De Keyser, «1000+», se poursuit à l´auditorium d´ARTS² - Conservatoire royal de Mons, 7 rue de Nimy à Mons, jusqu´au 18 décembre. L´école Supérieure des Arts de la Communauté française accueille le célèbre artiste flamand dans la chapelle de l´ancien couvent des filles Notre-Dame, à l´ombre de la Grand-Place de Mons.
Pendant plus de dix ans, Bert De Keyser a réalisé les portraits dessinés des interprètes et ensembles qui se sont succédé sur la scène du Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, de Flagey, du Concertgebouw de Bruges. Et c´est toujours un «work in progress».
En plus de mille dessins faits sur le vif, c´est une véritable rétrospective de la scène musicale et jazz qu´il a réalisée d´une touche légère témoignant de son admiration pour l´art japonais et les dessins de Bruegel, de Rembrandt et de Picasso. La rétrospective propose près de 200 œuvres ainsi que des dossiers qui présentent, par thématique, la quasi-totalité de cette collection unique.
Compte tenu de l´intense activité dans l´auditorium, l´exposition est visible sur rendez-vous en semaine, mais également pendant les événements publics à l´auditorium ainsi que les samedis et dimanches de 10h à 17h.

VERLENGING: Bert De Keyser in het Auditorium ARTS² - Koninklijk Conservatorium van Mons
Na de start naar aanleiding van de opening van het academisch jaar van ARTS², loopt de retrospectieve tentoonstelling van Bert De Keyser, "1000+" verder in het auditorium van ARTS² - Koninklijk Conservatorium van Mons, Rue de Nimy 7 in Mons, tot 18 december. De école Supérieure des Arts de la Communauté française herbergt de beroemde Vlaamse kunstenaar in de kapel van het oude klooster van de filles Notre-Dame, vlakbij de Grand-Place van Mons.
Gedurende meer dan tien jaar heeft Bert De Keyser portretten getekend van musici en ensembles tijdens optredens in het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten en het Flagey in Brussel, in het Concertgebouw van Brugge, de Singel in Antwerpen en zoveel andere plaatsen in België, Nederland, Frankrijk, Spanje, Noorwegen etc. Dit is nog altijd een "work in progress".
Deze meer dan duizend live gemaakte tekeningen zijn ook een echte retrospectieve van de muziek- en jazzscène, gerealiseerd met een lichte toets die getuigt van zijn bewondering voor de Japanse kunst en voor de tekeningen van Bruegel, Rembrandt en Picasso. De retrospectieve tentoonstelling toont bijna 200 werken alsook thematische dossiers die per thema bijna heel deze unieke collectie vertegenwoordigen.
Rekening houdend met de intense activiteit in het auditorium is de tentoonstelling op afspraak te bezichtigen tijdens de week, maar ook tijdens de openbare evenementen in het auditorium, alsook op zaterdag en zondag van 10 tot 17 uur.

"Hommage Bram Vermeulen"
n. a .v. de herdenking van het 10 jarig overlijden van Bram Vermeulen wou ik ook wat doen voor deze vriend die ik 33 jaar lang heb gekend. Nu wil ik hem op mijn manier ook eren en dit door middel van een tekeningenboek. Sven Gatz, Vlaams, Minister van Cultuur, zal mede met Tijl Bossuyt, artistiek leider van de Veerman, dit boek voorstellen. U wordt van harte uitgenodigd om Bram Vermeulen te herdenken.
Dit zal doorgaan op donderdag 18 december 2014 vanaf 12u tot 14u in de Spiegelzaal van GC De Markten.

Bij aanvang van de reeks huldeconcerten voor Bram Vermeulen heb ik, met een reeks tekeningen die ik van Bram gemaakt heb, een tentoonstelling opgezet in CC De Ploter te Ternat (4/10 tot 23/11) en in Harelbeke in CC het Spoor (24/11 tot 5/12)
Later nog in Gent, Antwerpen...
Dit alles leidde tot een boek met een keure van de tekeningen en teksten van Bram, in de vorm van een tekenblok bevat deze kunstuitgave 16 tekeningen van Bram en 16 tekeningen van uitvoerende musici, getekend tijdens Bram zijn huldeconcerten. Daarbij mijn keuze van enkele teksten, waarvan één gedicht, aan mij opgedragen, in Brams handschrift. De tekeningen van de 9 musici heb ik tijdens de repetitie en het concert in de PLOTER gemaakt.
I.s.m. de vzw BEELDENSTORM, huis van verbeelding in Kuregem, tevens uitgever van dit kunstboek, konden we deze kunstuitgave verwezenlijken.
Dit kunstboek kan u ook bestellen bij Beeldenstorm tegen de prijs van 20 eur (+ verzendkosten).
Het zou ook een mooi en bijzonder geschenk kunnen zijn voor deze feestdagen.

"Bram Vermeulen - Hommage aan een buitengewone jongen"
Kunstenaar Bert De Keyser die Bram Vermeulen 33 jaar heeft gekend, heeft hem ook verschillende keer geportretteerd.
Op 4/10 gaat in CC De Ploter de tentoonstelling "Bert De Keyser stelt Bram Vermeulen tentoon" in première.
Hij gaat tevens ook die avond live al de artiesten die Bram eren tekenen.

Hommages, we zijn er zuinig mee. Maar eens per tijd wordt een repertoire opgediept waar we niet over kunnen zwijgen. Denk maar aan evergreens als: 'De steen', 'Rode wijn' of 'De wedstrijd'. Stuk voor stuk meesterwerken van het Nederlandstalige lied. En als dit prachtige materiaal dan ook nog eens door een uitgekiende selectie van Vlaamse artiesten nieuw leven wordt ingeblazen, dan zijn we er graag bij. Een nieuwe lichting Vlaamse zangers met Jonas Winterland, Berlaen en Jelle Cleymans staat voor dit concert schouder aan schouder met gevestigde waarden als Wigbert, Antje De Boeck en Rony Verbiest. Hoog tijd om die mooie herinneringen aan Bram Vermeulen, 10 jaar na diens overlijden, nog eens samen op te halen!

Laudatio Bert de Keyser
D&H, geachte genodigden, vrienden van Bert de Keyser, beste Bert,
Dat de goede en welvarende gemeente Dilbeek vandaag de cultuurprijs toekent aan een all-round beeldend kunstenaar, verheugt mij bovenmate. Onder all-round kunstenaar versta ik ook 'levenskunstenaar' maar in de eerste plaats toch een beeldend kunstenaar van het zuiverste gehalte. Ik heb Bert - nu al weer enkele decennia geleden - leren kennen toen hij naast zijn drukke docentenopdrachten aan St.Lukas ook nog de tijd vond en bleef vrijmaken voor zijn eigen projecten. En van projecten gesproken, ik heb het hier wel degelijk over serieuze grootschalige installaties want dit soort 'entrepreneurship' kent hij als geen ander. Bert de Keyser staat zowel bekend als een kunstenaar die houdt van de kleinschaligheid en de intimiteit, binnenshuis tekenend, zowel als iemand die zich in de publieke ruimte ontplooit; een kunstenaar dus die de wereld wil veroveren. En dat heeft Bert uiteindelijk ook gedaan met zijn internationale projecten. Ik hoef hier het palmares van zijn aktiviteiten en realisaties niet op te gaan sommen; daar is het hier de plaats niet voor; dit moet je maar nalezen in een overzichtslijst van zijn tentoonstellingen die Bert als druk bezigzijnde artiest onophoudelijk laat aangroeien en maar blijft aanvullen. Het is haast niet bij te houden. Bert is een onrustige persoonlijkheid; 'relax' is een woord dat in zijn woordenschat niet voorkomt. Wanneer hij door de omstandigheden soms werd gedwongen om te rusten, was dít, denk ik, voor hem de zwaarste opdracht. Niet een grootse installatie verzinnen en opbouwen. Bij het Museumplein in Amsterdam een metershoge poort opstellen, daar draait hij z’n hand niet voor om, maar twee weken in een zetel rusten, dát is voor hem de allerzwaarste karwei.
Mijn bewondering en waardering voor Berts werk gaat toch in eerste plaats naar de wijze waarop hij zich in menig opzicht onderscheid van de meeste van zijn collega’s: zijn mededeelzaamheid, het overbrengen van ideeën en de aanstekelijke manier waarop hij jonge mensen op weg kan zetten. Op die manier opent hij voor hen ongekende werelden. Uiteraard begint dat alles bij zijn groot hart. Ik heb hem aan het werk gezien met zijn studenten, kunstenaars in spe. Ze bouwden hun ingenieuze dromen uit, fabriceerden labirintische structuren, beklommen daken van musea en waren klaar om de wereld met hun kunst en ideeën te veroveren. Dat hadden ze van Bert geleerd. Dat had hij hen bijgebracht: 'wees jezelf, dat is al ingewikkeld genoeg’. Maar ik neem aan dat hij hier vanavond niet om die redenen wordt gehuldigd terwijl ik vind dat het de man meer dan wat-dan-ook tekent. Laten we het dan toch maar even hebben over de kunstenaar die doet wat we van een kunstenaar verwachten: kunst maken. Iemand die tekent bijvoorbeeld. Haast onophoudelijk doet Bert dat; bij 'In Continuo' heeft hij zich tot taak gesteld een dimensie toe te voegen aan muzikale concepten. Normaal luisteren melomanen naar hun lievelingsmuziek of gaan ze naar concerten; Bert heeft zich voorgenomen dit ook beeldend vast te leggen. Dat is toch mooi: het vluchtige, wat enkel nog in je hoofd nazindert, ook in een beeld trachten te vatten. Hij probeert de musici tijdens dit unieke moment waarop ze een partituur verklanken te capteren in het scheppingsproces door er een nieuwe artistieke dimensie aan toe te voegen. Zo heeft hij al honderden kunstenaars geportretteerd. En ook dat blijft hij onvermoeibaar, zonder ophouden doen. Zijn subtiele tekeningen mogen dan voor sommigen in contrast staan met zijn grootse buitenontwerpen en installaties, toch zijn het realisaties die uit dezelfde bruisende, creatieve geest zijn ontsproten. En hier kan ik weer naar Amsterdam verwijzen waar Bert niet alleen het gigantisch grote Museumplein aanpakte maar ook de intieme ruimtes van het Rembandthuis aandurfde. In regelrechte confrontatie met de meester van de burijn en de zilverstift. Hij toont ons én bewijst dat kunst en cultuur levende entiteiten zijn en geen dorre lemmata uit een encyclopedie. Politici nemen graag slogans en dure woorden in de mond als 'cultuur leeft' of 'kunst moet je onder de mensen brengen, maar ik denk dat kunstenaars , mensen als Bert de Keyser juist degenen zijn die het bewijs ervoor leveren. Zij doén het. Kunst houdt een maatschappij in beweging; zij is de vitale kern van een leefgemeenschap. De verdiensten van Bert de Keyser kunnen niet beter worden erkend dan door de toekenning van een dergelijke onderscheiding als deze cultuurprijs die wordt uitgereikt door een gemeente. Voor velen onder u is het misschien een blijk van erkenning aan een groot kunstenaar maar ik zie een dergelijke prijs in eerste instantie als een return van de gemeenschap. Een dankbetuiging voor wat Bert als kunstenaar aan ons, aan die gemeenschap heeft gegeven. Goede wijn behoeft geen krans; de zorg waarmee hij zijn hoogwaardige projecten weet uit te kiezen staat ook buiten kijf. Over 'de smaak van De Keyser' valt niet te redetwisten; daarover zijn we het al lang eens. Daarvoor hebben we geen televisieseries nodig om ons daar aan te herinneren. Ik vind het een goede zaak dat deze prijs naar een bevlogen kunstenaar als Bert de Keyser gaat; iemand die zich niet als de zoveelste grote individualist gaat profileren maar een kunstenaar die graag werkt in harmonie of in confrontatie met anderen. Ik denk dat dit het gehalte, de waarde en de erkenning van deze prijs enkel maar kan ten goede komen.

Laudatio Bert De Keyser
Mesdames et Messieurs, invités et amis de Bert De Keyser, cher Bert.
Que l’agréable et florissante commune de Dilbeek décerne aujourd’hui son prix de la culture à un artiste aux si multiples facettes me ravit plus que je ne puis l’exprimer. Par artiste aux multiples facettes, j’entends aussi un artiste débordant de vie, impliqué dans tous les aspects de notre société mais, avant tout, sans le moindre doute, un maître dans la lignée des artistes les plus authentiques. J’ai appris à connaître Bert il y a quelques décennies déjà, lorsque, en plus de ses multiples tâches et fonctions au St. Lukas-Instituut, il trouvait encore le temps et l’enthousiasme pour réaliser ses propres projets. Et quand je parle de « projets », j’évoque ses gigantesques installations car Bert est également un « maître-entrepreneur » d’une rare envergure. Connu comme un artiste aimant le raffinement et l’intimité du dessin dépouillé à l’extrême, il est aussi celui qui déploie ses ailes dans l’espace, un artiste qui veut donc conquérir le monde. Et c’est ce qu’il a fait avec ses projets internationaux ! Je ne veux pas énumérer ici le palmarès de ses activités et réalisations, ce serait vraiment trop long car l’imposant aperçu de ses expositions, réalisations passées et projets futurs ne cesse de croître et est réellement vertigineux car cet homme ne s’arrête jamais. Le mot « relax » ne fait pas partie de son vocabulaire ! Lorsqu’il fut, quelques rares fois, fort heureusement, immobilisé par une quelconque opération, le repos obligatoire lui fut une épreuve surhumaine. Imaginer, créer et réaliser des projets gigantesques, ériger une installation haute de plusieurs mètres devant le Rijksmuseum d’Amsterdam et occuper toute la place, payer de sa personne par tous les temps... rien ne l’effraie... mais quinze jours dans un fauteuil... un supplice inimaginable !!
Mon admiration et mon estime pour l’œuvre de Bert vont quand même, en premier lieu, à la façon dont il se différencie en bien des cas de la plupart de ses collègues: son envie de communiquer, de partager ses idées et sa façon contagieuse de montrer la voie aux jeunes en leur ouvrant des mondes inconnus, tout cela part bien sûr de son grand cœur. Je l’ai vu à l’œuvre avec ses étudiants, artistes en puissance. Ils construisaient leurs rêves ingénieux, fabriquaient des structures aux allures de labyrinthe, se mouvaient sur des toits de musées et étaient prêts à conquérir le monde avec leurs idées et leur art. Et cela ils l’avaient appris de Bert. Lui, Bert, leur avait dit: « Soyez vous-même, c’est déjà assez compliqué ! » Je suppose que ce n’est pas pour cette raison qu’il est fêté ce soir mais pour moi, cet aspect moins connu de Bert, lui donne encore une dimension supplémentaire. Venons-en maintenant, quand même, à l’artiste qui fait ce que l’on attend d’un artiste: créer une œuvre d’art. Dessiner par exemple, chose que Bert fait pratiquement sans interruption ; dans le projet « Il Continuo » il s’est fixé la tâche d’ajouter une dimension aux concepts musicaux. Normalement les mélomanes écoutent leurs œuvres préférées ou vont au concert. Bert lui, s’est promis de rendre tout cela en images. C’est tellement beau: essayer de rendre en image ce qui vibre encore fugitivement dans la tête. Bert essaie de capter cet instant unique où, grâce au musicien, la partition devient sons et y ajoute ainsi une nouvelle dimension artistique. Il a déjà fixé des centaines d’artistes et continue à le faire, infatigable comme toujours. Ses dessins, si subtils, que certains trouvent en grand contraste avec ses réalisations monumentales sont pourtant issus du même génie créatif toujours en effervescence. Et ici je reviens de nouveau à Amsterdam où Bert s’attaqua à l’énorme place du Rijksmuseum mais également aux espaces intimes du Rembrandthuis où il osa la confrontation avec le maître de la gravure. Il nous démontre et prouve que l’art et la culture sont des entités vivantes et non d’arides extraits d’encyclopédies. Si, en politique, des slogans tels que « l’art vit » ou « la culture pour tous » réapparaissent régulièrement, ce ne sont pas les mots qui sont importants mais des artistes comme Bert De Keyser car la culture... c’est leur œuvre ! L’art est un des moteurs de la société, le noyau vital d’une communauté. Les mérites de Bert ne peuvent être mieux reconnus que par l’attribution d’un prix culturel comme celui-ci, décerné par une commune. Pour beaucoup d’entre vous c’est sans doute un signe de reconnaissance envers un grand artiste mais personnellement je vois cette distinction surtout comme un juste retour de la part de la Communauté, un geste de remerciement pour ce que Bert, en tant qu’artiste, nous a donné, à nous et à cette communauté. A bon vin point d’enseigne ! Le soin avec lequel Bert choisit ses projets de haut niveau ne fait aucun doute. Il n’y a pas à discuter du « goût de De Keyser » ! Depuis longtemps nous sommes d’accord sur ce sujet et point n’est besoin d’une série télévisée pour nous le rappeler ! Je trouve extrêmement positif que ce prix soit décerné à un artiste inspiré comme Bert De Keyser, quelqu’un qui ne se projette pas comme le tantième grand individualiste mais un artiste qui aime travailler en harmonie ou en confrontation avec les autres. Je pense que ceci ne peut qu’enrichir le contenu, la valeur et la reconnaissance de cette distinction.

Laudatio Bert de Keyser
Ladies and Gentlemen, friends of Bert de Keyser, dear Bert, It is utterly thrilling to me that the good and happy community of Dilbeek discerns the culture award to an all-round plastic artist. When I say an all-round artist, I also mean somewone who has the art of living, but in the very first place a plastic artist pur sang. I first met Bert - indeed, many decades ago - while had a busy life as a teacher at the Saint Luc institute, and still making time for his very own projects. And if I say projects, I am really talking about seriously big scale installations, as he knows this kind of 'entrepreneurship' like no-one else does. Bert de Keyser is well known as an artist who loves small scale art, drawing inside, but also as someone who unfolds himself in the public space; as an artist who wants to conquer the world. And that is what Bert finally did through his international projects. I do not need to review his awards, his activities and achievements here and now. This is not the right time and place to do so. So I suggest you check that out in some reference list of his exhibitions, which is growing on endlessly, Bert being a very busy artist. You really can’t keep up with what he does. Bert is a restless personality. The word 'relax' does not exist in his vocabulary. When circumstances forced him to rest, I believe that this was a most stressing challenge to him. But conceiving and constructing a huge installation was never a challenge. Building an enormous gate to the Museumplein in Amsterdam was easy peasy. But taking a rest on a coach for two weeks was like going to hell and back.
My admiration and appreciation for Bert’s work lies first of all in the way he distinguishes himself from most of his fellow artists in many ways : his communicativeness, the way he transmits his ideas and the contagious way he can get young people on track. In that way, he opens undiscovered worlds to them. Of course, everything starts with his great heart. I have seen him working with his pupils, future artists. They built their ingenious dreams, manufacturing labyrinth structures, they climbed museum roofs and were ready to conquer the world with their art and their ideas. That what Bert had taught them. He told them : 'be yourself, that’s complicated enough to start with’. But I suppose that he is not celebrated here tonight for those reasons, even if I believe that it characterizes this man more than anything else. So let us linger a while over the artist who does what we can expect from an artist : making art. Someone who draws, for example. Bert draws almost continuously; through 'In Continuo’, he appointed himself as a task to add a dimension to musical concepts. Normally, music addicts listen to their favorite music, or they go to concerts; Bert intends to express this in plastic language as well. And it is beautiful indeed : that volatile moment which only continues to vibrate in your head, is caught in an image. He tries to capture the musicians during this unique moment they are bringing a score alive into music, in that creative process, by adding a new artistic dimension. In this way, he already portrayed hundreds of artists. And he continues to do so, in a ceaseless, insatiable way. For many people, his subtle drawings may be in contrast with his large scale outdoor concepts and installations, and yet these have been conceived from the very same beautiful and creative mind. And here again I can refer to Amsterdam, where Bert not only conquered the gigantic Museumplein, but also the intimate spaces of the Rembandt house, openly confronting the master of the burin and the silver graver. He shows and demonstrates that art and culture are living entities instead of dry entries in an encyclopedia. Politicians like to quote slogans and expensive words, such as 'culture is alive' or 'art is meant to be brought to the people’, but I believe that artists like Bert De Keyser are precisely those who furnish the proof. They simply DO it. Art keeps society on the move; art is the vital core of a living community. There is no better way to highlight the merits of Bert de Keyser than by awarding him the culture prize, presented by a municipality. For many of you this may be a token of merit to a great artist, but I rather see it as a return from the community in the first place. An expression of gratitude for what Bert has given as an artist, to us, to his community. Good wine needs no bush; the careful way he chooses his highly valuable projects is beyond questioning. There is no arguing about the 'taste of the Keyser’; we all agreed on that a long time ago. We need no television series to remind us of that. It is a good thing that this prize goes to an inspired artist like Bert De Keyser; someone who does not want to present himself as yet another great individualist, but an artist who loves to work in harmony or in confrontation with others. I believe that this may only contribute to the prestige, the value and the rewarding recognition of this prize.

Sinds 2009 reikt de Cultuurraad van Dilbeek jaarlijks zijn Cultuurprijs uit aan een persoon of groep die zich in Dilbeek verdienstelijk heeft gemaakt op cultureel of socio-cultureel vlak. Dit jaar is Bert De Keyser, beeldend kunstenaar uit Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle, de winnaar. De feestelijke overhandiging van de prijs vindt plaats op vrijdag 22 november in de Schouwburg van Westrand (centrum Dilbeek-Kamerijklaan 46). We stellen uw aanwezigheid hierbij zeer op prijs.
JOHAN VAN CAUWENBERGE, dichter en radiomaker zal de laudatio uitspreken.
PERFORMANCE "PLAS" / "Brusselstraat93" live-performance. EEN BIJZONDER concert. (50')
Het werk is een dialoog tussen verschillende kunstenaars. Ze laten zich inspireren en leiden door elkaar, ze vullen elkaar aan, geven elkaar ruimte. Van componist George De Decker horen we Brusselstraat 93, een compositie voor klarinet en klankband. Brusselstraat 93 in Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle is zijn geboortehuis. Dit werk is dan ook een ode aan zijn vader en zijn roots. Raf De Keninck is sinds vele jaren een vaste compagnon de route. Hij creëerde al vele werken van George De Decker. Raf De Keninck a produit de nombreuses œuvres de George De Decker. Bert De Keyser se fait inspirer de ce concert pour faire des dessins de grande taille. Trois grands rouleaux de canevas seront déroulés lentement.

The work is a dialogue between different artists. George De Decker made a composition for clarinet and soundtrack. Raf De Keninck created many of his works already. Bert De Keyser will produce large size drawings inspired by this concert. Three large scrolls of canvas will be unrolled slowly.

Opvolgen en tekenen van de Koningin Elisabeth Wedstrijd piano 2013.
De halve finale van deze wedstrijd dagelijks opgevolgd in Flagey om er de 24 kandidaten te tekenen.
Het past ook in mijn project "In Continuo" .
Project "In Continuo"
Meer dan acht jaar terug begon ik in het Conservatorium van Brussel stelselmatig musici te tekenen. Ruim vijf jaar terug stelde de heer Paul Dujardin mij voor om de kunstenaars die in Bozar optreden in tekening op te volgen . Steeds doe ik dit op een artistieke wijze en niet op een reportage-schetsmatige manier. Werken in Bozar gaf mij veel meer ruimte om artiesten en kunstenaars uit de hele wereld te tekenen. Al meer dan 700 musici getekend en nog een honderdtal bij festivals en andere plaatsen. Tekende met simultane projectie, o.a. met Jef Neve, Kris Defoort, Il Fondamento, een creatie-perform van Georges De Decker met Raf De Keninck, benefietconcerten: Conservamus, Tsunami Japan e.a..

Project "In Continuo"
More than eight years ago I started to draw musicians in a systematic way at the Brussels Conservatory. Five years ago Mr. Paul Dujardin invited me to follow the artists performing at Bozar in drawings. I do so in an artistic way, avoiding reporting through sketches. Up till now I drew more than 600 musicians, and besides I pictured more than 100 others at festivals and other places. I also made live projection drawings and creation performances.

J'ai assister tous les jours à la demi-finale au Flagey afin d’éterniser les 24 candidats sous forme de dessins.

Cela fait plus de huit ans que je me suis mis à systématiquement dessiner des musiciens au Conservatoire de Bruxelles. Il y a cinq ans monsieur Paul Dujardin m’a proposé de suivre en dessin les artistes qui se produisent au Bozar. Mon travail au Bozar m’a permis de dessiner des artistes du monde tout entier. Jusqu’à présent j’ai dessiné plus de 600 musiciens, et encore une centaine de plus lors de festivals ou à d’autres endroits, également fait des dessins en projection simultanée de notamment Jef Neve, Kris Defoort, Il Fondamento, une performance de création de Georges De Decker avec Raf De Keninck, ainsi que des concerts de charité de Conservamus, Tsunami Japon

My great-uncle was the last sheep-shepherd in the Brussels region. He was found murdered in the proximity of his flock: this was the reason to make this sculpture. It has a double meaning: on one side it is a sneak-back into the past and on the other hand it reflects the surroundings and links to the future. The shepherd, the land of Herman Teirlinck and the panorama of Brussels are reflecting in the front- and back figure of the shepherd’s dog.

Mijn grootoom was de laatste schaapherder in de Brusselse omgeving. Bij zijn kudde werd hij vermoord teruggevonden: de aanleiding om dit beeld te maken. De betekenis is dubbel: enerzijds is het een terugblik op het verleden, anderzijds weerspiegelt het de omgeving en legt het de link naar de toekomst. De herder, het land van Herman Teirlinck en het panorama van Brussel weerspiegelen zich voor en achter in de figuur van de herdershond.

Mon grand-oncle fut le dernier berger des alentours de Bruxelles. Un jour, on le trouva mort parmi ses bêtes. Assassiné! De là ma sculpture. Elle a une double signification. D’une part le passé, d’autre part un reflet de l’environnement actuel et une vision du futur. Le berger, le pays d’Herman Teirlinck et le panorama de Bruxelles se rejoignent et se reflètent dans les flancs du chien.

"Hommage aan Simon Vinkenoog" - Het Goudblommeke in Papier - Brussel
Na Amsterdam en Antwerpen volgt ook in Brussel de voorstelling van de bundel “Aardse zekerheden” van de vorig jaar overleden Simon Vinkenoog. Deze monografie, met vijftien onuitgegeven liefdesgedichten aan zijn vrouw Edith Ringnalda, is een bibliofiele uitgave van Jozef Moetwillig uit Gent. Bert De Keyser, beeldend kunstenaar en vriend van Simon, illustreerde het werk. Plaats van het gebeuren is Het Goudblommeke in Papier, waar hulde zal gebracht worden aan Simon Vinkenoog op dinsdag 19 oktober om 19 uur.
Edith Rignalda zal die avond enkele van zijn gedichten voorlezen na een gesprek met Anna Luyten. Verschillende bekende schrijvers en dichters brengen een hommage. Tot 27 oktober wordt het werk van Bert De Keyser nog tentoongesteld. Presentatie van het tekenblok "Vinkenoog getekend" met portretten die De Keyser eind 2008 maakte in Passa Porta. Ook 3 documentaires over Vinkenoog.

"La Fleur en Papier Doré" - Hommage à Simon Vinkenoog - Bruxelles
La présentation d'une nouvelle édition bibliophile du recueil "Aardse zekerheden" de Simon Vinkenoog aura lieu le Mardi 19 octobre, à 19 heures.
Cette publication, qui comprend 15 poèmes inédits adressés par Simon Vinkenoog à sa
compagne Edith Ringnalda, est une réalisation de l'éditeur gantois Josef Moetwillig. Il a confié l'illustration à l'artiste plasticien Bert De Keyser.
Edith Ringnalda lira quelques poèmes. Et avec des oeuvres spécialement créées pour cette occasion, ses amis, écrivains, poètes commémoreront Simon Vinkenoog,
ce grand artiste néerlandais récemment décédé (il fut membre du groupe Cobra et résida longtemps à Bruxelles).
Signalons que les œuvres de Bert De Keyser resteront exposées jusqu'au 27 octobre.
Présentation du bloc à dessin "Vinkenoog getekend" avec des portraits fait par De Keyser fin 2008 au Passa Porta.

Spiegelwand: “Licht, ruimte”
De spiegels worden als het ware filmschermen waarop nooit éénzelfde beeld wordt geprojecteerd maar de aandacht vragen voor wat binnen die ruimte wordt gevangen. Het fascinerende caleidoscopisch spel van licht, lucht, water, de seizoenen, deze omgeving met al de andere kunstwerken genereert naast esthetische ook een filosofische ervaring beeld en spiegelbeeld, werkelijkheidsweerspiegeling, verleden, heden, toekomst.
Paroi de miroirs: “Lumière, Espace”
Les miroirs se transforment en écrans de films sur lesquels jamais la même n’est projectée, mais qui attirent l’attention sur ce qui est enfermé dans cet espace. Le jeu fascinant, caléidoscopique de la lumière, de l’air, de l’eau, des saisons, de cet environnement avec toutes ces autres oeuvres d’art, engendre non seulement une expérience estéthique mais également une expérience philosophique: l’image et son reflet dans le miroir, le reflet de la réalité, le passé, le présent, le futur...

Mirrors transform into film screens, the images projected on these screens are never the same, there’s a yearning for attention of what is being captured inside that space. The fascinating kaleidoscopic game of light, sky, water, the season’s, this environment with all the other art works generates not only an aesthetic but a philosophical experience as well: image, mirror reflection, a reflection of reality, the past, present time, future.

Die Spiegel werden zu Filmleinwänden auf die immerzu wechselnde Bilder projeziert werden, die Neugier weckend was sich wohl im Inneren dieses Raumes verbirgt. Bert De Keyser: “Homage to Hokusaï”
Hokusaï Japan, (1760-1849) Grand Master from the EDO period
This poetic and even humoristic image shows sheets of paper escaping a traveler's purse carried away by a strong sea breeze. Perhaps the great master himself. Hokusai was then already past the age of 70. I represented this poetic image through a construction of metal elements, as light as possible, almost invisible.

Dit zo poëtisch en tevens grappig beeld toont de door de krachtige zeewind de wegvliegende vellen papier uit de tas van de reiziger, wellicht van de grootmeester zelf.
Hokusaï was toen al over de zeventig. Dit poëtisch beeld heb ik in een opstelling van ruimtelijke metalen elementen gebracht, zo licht mogelijk, haast onzichtbaar.

Cette image à la fois poétique et même humoristique montre les feuilles s’échappant du calepin du voyageur – peut-être du grand maître lui-même - et emportées par un vent fort du large. A l’époque Hokusaï avait plus de soixante-dix ans.
J’ai représenté cette image par une construction d’éléments métalliques, aussi légers que possible, presqu’invisibles.

"Ver-Beeldende-Muziek" Tentoonstelling Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel: vijfjarig overzicht met een keuze van 300 tekeningen van muziekanten. Gedurende vele jaren was de realisatie van grote ruimtelijke kunstprojecten een passie voor kunstenaar Bert De Keyser. U herinnert zich ongetwijfeld zijn laatste grote project dat hij in 2004 in Brussel maakte: het kunstparcours 'Weg van Bruegel 04', samen met 40 kunstenaars.
